Monday 10th March was our society AGM held at the Mendip Golf Club. We had a great turn out of society members, sponsors & supporters.
We were delighted to offer long service awards to two of our long standing & dedicated chief stewards:
– Nigel Pooley has dedicated his career to the dairy industry. Having worked at some very well known dairy producers including a 25 year stint with the globally famous Wyke Farms where his expertly trained grading nose was insured for a whooping £5 million, there isn’t a lot Nigel doesn’t know about cheese! Nigel has chaired our Cheese Committee for many years now and has taken our cheese competition from strength to strength. Nigel’s loyalty to the Mid-Somerset Show & it’s cheese awards is truly exceptional and we are sure he is going to be greatly missed by the committee. Despite stepping down from his role, we are sure you will still be able to spot Nigel in the cheese tent on show day admiring the many entries from all over the country. Thank you Nigel!
– Andrew Look is a local dairy farmer and very kindly stepped in as our Trade Stand steward some years ago. Whilst our show office take the stand bookings, Andrew & his team have the mammoth task of ensuring that all the stands are correctly measured out on the showground in time for the trader’s arrival. With over 300 trade stands, a somewhat complex layout & forever having to battle the elements & ground conditions, marking out the trade stands never has been and never will be the easiest job- hats off to Andrew for his commitment! We looking forward to continuing to have Andrew as a supporter of the show and hope he is able to enjoy the show in a slightly more relaxed manor. Thank you Andrew.
The AGM also sees the changing of the Society President. Richard Clothier has been a massive supporter of the Society over the past 12 months as our President and we cannot thank him enough for the time & effort he has dedicated to the society. Richard has been a generous, kind & engaging President and we are pleased he has become a part of our show community.
We now welcome Mark Bagwell to the Society as our 2025/26 President. Mark is the operations director for Charlie Bigham’s who have always been great supporters of the show. We are looking forward to working with Mark & the rest of the Charlie Bigham’s family over the coming months and we hope Mark has a successful & enjoyable time as president.
