Caroline Waldegrave, Baroness Waldegrave of North Hill, has been voted as the new president of the Mid-Somerset Show.

Lady Waldegrave, who runs Dudwell School in Chewton Mendip, was voted in at the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society’s recent Annual General Meeting.

The popular cookery book author and wife of the former Conservative Politician Lord Waldegrave, joins the local show in its 164th year and says she is honoured to be this year’s president.

She said: “I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Mid-Somerset Show and I’m very much looking forward to the day itself – it’s always lovely to see so many people from far and wide showing their support and enjoying a great day out.

“I love seeing the pigs, but the cookery demonstration has also been a wonderful addition to the show in recent years and I’m excited to see what the local chefs will cook up this year.”

Caroline, whose husband, Lord Waldegrave, was President of the Mid-Somerset Show in 1994, was the co-founder of Leiths School of Food and Wine before moving to Somerset where she set up a cookery school on the family farm. Caroline’s other interests include tennis, bridge and going to the theatre.
